Just wanted to know what is the hottest temperature that Nascar has ever raced in. Also, how hot can it get in the race cars and why does it get so hot in there?

Three years ago when I was at Chicagoland it was 104 degrees. Not sure if that was the hottest but it sure felt like it.

Its well over 100F. Most of the country can get that hot during the summer. Add in a large amount of asphalt, aluminum bleachers, and you end up nice hot bowl with reduced breezes.

As for the cars they can get over 140F. High performance engines, transmissions, axles, brakes, all make a ton of heat. The passenger window is closed off and the cars are designed so the air doesn’t go through the drivers window to reduce drag and increase speed.

Just roll up the windows on your car in the summer and drive around with the A/C off. It gets hot fast and your car doesn’t produce nearly as much heat as a race car.

I think I was at the same race as steffy. I went to the August race there and sat right across from pit road entrance.

Not sure of the hottest temps but 2 years ago I was at MIS (Michigan International Speedway) and it was 97 degrees…uggh…it was a bad one. Our seats were just 4 rows off the track and the track temp was 117 degrees. That is just friggin hot and miserable.

I think during the California race in September of 2007, the temperature was about 107 degrees.

It gets to be about 120-150 degrees inside a race car, depending on a number of factors, such as the engines and temperature outside of the car.

There was a truck race at Memphis in July a few years ago where the temperature was about 100 or so and the heat index was around 120, and that was an evening race. I believe it was Ron Hornaday who said he nearly passed out during the last caution a few laps before the end of the race it was so hot.

As for the Cup, I’m not sure. I know it was about 100 at a race in California a little while back.

120 degrees? in the old days some drivers would have to get out and have a substitute driver because they got so exhausted from the heat
