The Sports Network Johnny Sauter miraculously held on to his truck when he went sideways with Ron Hornaday Jr. in the closing laps and then held off Hornaday at the finish to win Sunday’s O’Reilly Auto Parts 250 Camping World Truck Series race at Kansas Speedway. Sauter led 101 of 167 laps, but Hornaday, who started on the pole, chased him down for the lead with less than 15 laps remaining. When Hornaday attempted to pass Sauter while they were caught in lap traffic, the two bumped into each other and slid up the track towards the turn three wall at roughly a 45-degree angle. They avoided hitting the wall and regained control of their trucks, with Sauter pulling ahead of Hornaday from there. Sauter beat Hornaday to the finish line by five seconds for his second career truck win. His first victory came last September at the 1.5-mile Las Vegas Motor Speedway — a track similar to Kansas. “That was out of control,” said Sauter, who turned 32 years old on Saturday. “I’m thinking that dirty bugger Hornaday got me again. That was awesome.” NASCAR halted the race for 90 minutes when a heavy thunderstorm moved over the area and dropped marble-size hail on the track after 113 laps were completed. When it resumed, Johnny Benson held the lead, while Hornaday ran in sixth after making a lengthy pit stop during the caution to repair his damaged left- rear fender from a multi-truck incident that occurred earlier in the race
