How about using a dirt track format for nascar?

Have heat races

Then last chance races

Then have a feature

Use the old format of scoring

This will allow more cars to be involved in nascar. You would need to still have a cap on how many cars could enter. I don’t have all the details worked out. Maybe this could at least spark a discussion.
I’m not talking about running on dirt. I am talking about running the race format that most dirt tracks will run. Such as, heat races, last chance races, then feature races. Similar to what the World of Outlaws would run.

Yeah I would love to see regular cars off the street to race.

The owners won’t go for it because their sponsors are spending so much money and they need a better guarantee that their cars will make the “main” show.

I think that Nascar Sprint Cup should go to 1 or 2 dirt tracks per year. Just my opinion. I think the fan support is out there, for it to happen also.

Sponsors will not pay millions of dollars to have a car in a qualifier, it isn’t going to happen.
It would actually be worse for the small & start-up teams because they would be out there tearing up their stuff running qualifiers and last chance races and still having to pack up and go home.

    how about not.

    not good for the sport.

Yeah, I’d like to see something new. The top 30 or 35 could qualify on speed, then lets have a consolation race or two to set the rest of the field. With this format, even guys that miss the main event get a chance to race and get some TV time. They don’t have to spend all their time and resources to set up for just one lap.

I don’t think it is a good idea. NASCAR has it’s own format and dirt racing has its own. They should remain separate. The drivers do compete in dirt track racing. But it should be their choise to do so, NASCAR shouldn’t force this on them as it is two different forms of driving. Even though you can use the skill to enhance your driving, the tracks are completely different and so is the style of driving used to compete on the tracks.

Yes. Heat races, or consolation races are a good idea. Have the first 20 cars or so run single car time trials, and then have two consolation timed events the day or night before the main event. A timed race would be great for TV. Many series are already going in this direction. It would have to be in the TV package that all heat races get coverage. I think single car qualifying is sooo boring, but many people watch it. Just think how many would watch a 10 or 20 lap shootout. Every sponsor would be guaranteed some tv time. It’s amazing how many people don’t understand this question.

I race this way every Friday & Saturday Night. It could Work–But the Sponsors and Owners wouldnt allow it–Tear up a 250,000 dollar car in a Heat Race Or Last Chance Race to Make the Big Show. Too Much money could be Lost. I have to do this every weekend and have been Wrecked and Miss the Feature and Im out Pit Fees-Racing Fuel-Truck Fuel-2 Tickets for My Pit Helpers and then out the Cost of My Damaged Car.!!!!!1

It would be kool, but it’s never gonna happen in point races. Maybe an exhibition race sometime, but not a Cup race.
