Is it legal to paint a licensed object such as a Nascar car and sell it?

I am a hobbie artist and do some painting on the side, lately I have had request to paint Nascar cars, NFL team logos, Disney characters and the such. How legal is it and where do I find gidelines. I would like to expand my hobbie and need to know all the rules! Thanks!
